Edward A. Ortiz Middle School is located on the south side of Santa Fe, New Mexico and is named after the late Santa Fe Public School Superintendent Edward A. Ortiz. The school was built thirteen years ago, and is the largest middle school in Santa Fe with 6th, 7th, and 8th, grade students. A bilingual/ESL program, chorus, band, extra-curricular activities and an after school tutoring program are available to students. Parents are also offered ESL, literacy, parenting, and technology classes. All communication is sent out in Spanish and English to reach the diverse population via monthly parent news letters, PTO meetings, and parent/community advisory council meetings. The primary focus of reform initiatives at Ortiz Middle School is to raise overall student achievement focusing on the four core areas of reading, math, science and social studies.
