Kearny Elementary School was built in the early 1960’s and is located in the southwest section of Santa Fe. The school population consists of urban students who participate in regular, bilingual, and special education programs. The student population is approximately 450 students and the approximate ethnic breakdown at any one time of the student population is as follows: 83% Hispanic, 13% White, 1% American Indian, and 3% other.

There are 46 staff members at Kearny Elementary to meet the needs of the students. Kearny Elementary is currently a Title I Schoolwide program that includes an integrated, balanced, literacy program that includes the use of Reading Renaissance. This is an on-going process with district in-service providing training on new strategies, training of a literacy coordinator and training on Reading Renaissance.
