DeVargas Middle School proudly opened its doors in 1962 to the first generation of “Conquerors." Creating a school community where everyone pursues an active role in the learning processes and fosters a curiosity for knowledge is the vision at DeVargas Middle School (DVMS). A multi-disciplinary team approach is used to achieve the varied academic and social needs of seventh and eighth grade students in achieving their highest potential; the developmentally based curriculum is presented in partnership with parents, staff, students and the Santa Fe community.

Core subjects (English, science, history, math) are taught through a combination of traditional and thematic units which are designed, implemented and assessed through projects, tests, and research papers. Daily schedules include two of the following:

SPECIAL PROGRAMS:

  • Dual-language program serving immigrants and native New Mexicans. This program will incorporate dual language in the core classes as well as cultural aspects through history, dance and music.
  • After school tutoring - Four days a week from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
  • First Serve Tennis Program - Four days a week, two days of tennis and 2 days of tutoring Potential for earning a scholarship at the end of senior year
  • Mariachi Conquistador - After school program and many performances
  • Cooking Club - After school program once a week
  • Yearbook - After school program once a week
