Chaparral Elementary School
The big school with a small school feeling!
Chaparral Elementary is a Site Based Managed school nestled among the piñon trees off of Zia Road across from Ragle Park. The population of this Title I school varies from 430 -490 students. There are 20 classrooms of grade K-6 with bilingual classes at each grade level and full-day Kindergarten.
The academic program is supplemented with Art, Physical Education, Library, Technology and Music classes for all students. Beginning and Advanced Band is offered for grades 4-6. The school also has a partnership with many community organizations such as Art Works, Cooking with Kids, Yoga in the Schools, Mozart y Mariachi and Service Learning. There is also a YMCA after school program and several tutoring programs.
Parent involvement is the driving force behind this community school. Chaparral has an active PTA whose fund raising activities support our educational needs. The parents also support our affiliation with the Santa Fe Independent Youth League by volunteering as coaches and attending the games. When it is time for our annual Halloween Carnival and Book Fair there is never a shortage of volunteers.
Chaparral also has an active Student Council which sponsors an annual food drive and
also collects hats and mittens for needy children. This is a school with a heart and this is
