The SER/Career Academy is an alternative public high school in Santa Fe. The student population ranges from 100 to 125 students with the ethnic distribution of approximately 83.5 % Hispanic, 11.9% Anglo, 3.7% Native American, and 0.9% Asian. Special Education and English Language Learner programs are not available on site.
Students attend the Academy for a variety of reasons. Students admitted to the Academy feel unsuccessful in a traditional high school setting, need an individualized self-paced curriculum, or simply desire a smaller learning environment. Acceptance to the school is completed by an application and testing process.
The Academy has a community work-friendly atmosphere. Flexible class schedules are available for students. Day classes meet Monday-Thursday 8:00 -3:00, (one hour lunch). Extended school meets from 1:00-5:30 and night school hours are 3:30-7:30. Childcare services for teen mothers are available on site.
SER (Service, Employment, and Redevelopment) is funded by federal and local grants and business partnerships. SER offers a GED program, On-the Job Training Program (OJT), Project Get Ahead, YES Program and the Child Care Center. |
